Forget tedious window cleaning — technology is fundamentally transforming the process

Window cleaning is one of those chores many people would gladly strike from their household to-do list. And technology is finally making that possible. Next-generation window-cleaning robots developed by Ecovacs, such as the WINBOT W3 OMNI, are fundamentally changing the way we think about clean glass. They do not just clean windows — they also take care of their own maintenance. This model is considered the world’s first to automatically wash its cleaning pads, eliminating one of the biggest inconveniences that existed until now.

“This solution shows just how far window-cleaning technology has advanced — manufacturers are thinking not only about the cleaning process itself, but also about the maintenance of the entire device. This is an important step toward fully autonomous home solutions,” says L. Galinauskaitė.

It is precisely the technological solutions used in the WINBOT W3 OMNI that are driving this shift and fundamentally changing the window-cleaning process.

Automatic maintenance and no dirty pads

One of this robot’s biggest distinguishing features is the integrated Vortex Wash system, which allows pad maintenance to be fully automated. In the multifunctional station, the entire process takes place without any user intervention — from intensive cleaning to preparation for the next cycle.

Inside, 16 high-pressure nozzles generate a water jet of up to 20 kPa, helping break down dirt that has penetrated deep into the fabric. At the same time, four rotating discs mechanically clean every fiber of the pad, while a special scraping mechanism removes excess water and leaves the optimal level of moisture for even cleaning.

“The greatest value of this solution is not the automatic washing itself, but the fact that it maintains consistent quality throughout the entire cleaning process. When the pads are constantly refreshed, dirt transfer and streaks are avoided, so the result remains impressive regardless of how long the device operates,” says L. Galinauskaitė.

Spotless cleanliness even in the corners

When cleaning windows, one of the biggest challenges is corners and edges. The WINBOT W3 OMNI tackles this with several technologies.

The TruEdge system enables highly precise edge cleaning — the mechanism rotates up to 200 times per minute and reaches as close as 1.1 mm from the edge, removing even long-settled dirt.

At the same time, a wide-angle spray system with three nozzles covers up to 90% of the surface with a fine mist of water. This creates an even layer of moisture that helps dissolve dirt more effectively before it is wiped away.

“Most often, users notice that corners are left uncleaned or that the cleaning is not even. In this case, both problems are solved at the same time,” the spokesperson comments.

Smart movement even in complex situations

The WINBOT W3 OMNI window-cleaning robot uses advanced WIN-SLAM 5.0 navigation technology, which allows it to plan its movement precisely and adapt to different surfaces. With the help of an upgraded algorithm and a multi-sensor system, the robot can detect obstacles in real time and avoid them with accuracy of up to 1 mm, ensuring smooth operation in a wide range of situations.

“What makes this window-cleaning robot stand out is that it can work not only on standard windows, but also on more challenging surfaces — such as glass corridors, conservatories, or bathroom mirrors. Its movement speed reaches up to 16 centimeters per second, so cleaning is not only precise, but also fast,” notes L. Galinauskaitė.

In addition, it features different cleaning modes — from quick surface cleaning to thorough removal of stubborn dirt or targeted cleaning of specific areas — allowing users to easily adapt it to different needs.

“These types of navigation systems fundamentally change the way a robot perceives its environment — it does not simply move according to a pre-set pattern, but responds to real-world conditions,” says L. Galinauskaitė.

One of the most important aspects is safety

When it comes to window-cleaning robots, safety remains one of the most important considerations, especially when working at height. That is why the Ecovacs WINBOT W3 OMNI features a 12-level protection system that combines both hardware and software solutions.

The device delivers suction power of up to 10,000 Pa and continuously monitors and automatically maintains optimal pressure to remain securely attached to the glass. Even in the event of a sudden power outage, the robot can stay attached to the surface for up to 30 minutes.

Additional safety is ensured by multiple types of sensors and physical protection features — from a structure designed to reduce air leakage to a cable capable of withstanding tensile force of up to 1,000 N.

“What matters here is that safety has been designed as an integrated system — different sensors, pressure control, and physical protection features work together rather than separately. It is precisely this comprehensive approach that ensures stable device performance even in more challenging conditions,” says L. Galinauskaitė.

Control via a smart app

The WINBOT W3 OMNI offers not only advanced cleaning technologies, but also convenient control through a smart app, allowing the entire process to be managed remotely. Users can monitor the robot’s operation in real time, choose different cleaning modes, adjust settings, or direct the device to specific areas — all with just a few taps on their phone.

This kind of control is especially convenient in everyday situations: there is no need to physically approach the device, cleaning can be scheduled in advance, and users can quickly respond to the need to clean only a specific part of a window. This not only saves time, but also provides greater control and flexibility.

“Convenient control is becoming just as important today as the cleaning result itself. When you can manage the device from your phone — monitor it, adjust it, or start it remotely — it naturally fits into your daily routine and requires minimal maintenance,” says L. Galinauskaitė.
